MENSTRUA . Contra . CapitalAcção
Living Art
the nausea, the cramp, the fall, the clot, the blood,
It was 2018
when I have quit my 9 to 5 job
I was dreaming with the possibility of focusing on my art practice
in March 2020 I realized that I was broke and could no longer pay for my rent because
COVID-19 would make it all more challenging but
I didn't want to call my family, my mom and ask for support
I didn´t want to give them the right to tell me once again
-
we told you art pays no bread!...
Not this time!
Then, I thought
" I am an artist, dam it!
I will make art ..."
I decided to sell all my furniture and home appliances
I have reduced all my belongs to a backpack and few more boxes
to start a nomadic living as an art practice
For 8 weeks I have lived in 4 houses of friends
and friends of friends who have agreed to host me
while there, my goal was to hold space for conversations
around the uncomfortable space that capitalism occupies in their/our lives...
I wanted to become menstrual fluid,
spilling red water to the fact that we live in a system that is
designed to take way our dreams and dignity
putting my discomfort on the table making space for them to face theirs
bleeding together
WE DID IT!
...
Eternal gratitude to those who have embarked in this adventure with me
those who have hosted me, saved my belongings at their places
and shared all their love under such a pivotal moment of my life
